What age range does L4L Nigeria target? <\/span><\/h5>

L4L believes that all children have a fundamental right to an education. Furthermore L4L supports the concept that children learn best before they reach the age of 11yrs, especially through a child-centered approach which encourages learning by doing.<\/span><\/p>

When does the technology based learning take place in the schools? <\/span><\/h5>

L4L Nigeria sets up Computer Clubs in selected Primary Schools as an after-school activity open to all children in Primary 4-5, while working within the framework of the State Education Programme and the school terms.<\/span><\/p>

How does L4L Nigeria measure the impact of the L4L Club Houses? <\/span><\/h5>

A baseline survey of the teachers, children and school environment will be carried out, before implementation, to form a basis of reference against which the intervention will be measured.<\/span><\/p>

Town Hall meeting with all stakeholders to facilitate ownership<\/span><\/p>

Develop a communication plan to determine frequency and method of feedback<\/span><\/p>

Feedback will be channeled into the management programme and provide data for research and development<\/span><\/p>

L4L will provide Technical Assistance to the Club House who will be on site at most opening times to monitor all activities and assist with any technical issues<\/span><\/p>

L4L will ensure that on-going reviews of each stage are carried out to allow for standardization and effective resource management<\/span><\/p>

There will be continuous monitoring of the programme and impact assessment<\/span><\/p>

What are the goals of the L4L Club Houses?<\/span><\/h5>

To provide a suitably safe and secure environment in State Primary Schools where children have access to screen-based technologies<\/span><\/p>

To provide appropriate technical equipment and a programme of activities that enable children to learn and become confident with the use of screen-based technologies<\/span><\/p>

To train and upgrade Primary School Teachers in the use of the computer as a teaching tool<\/span><\/p>

To obtain support from the school community (including parents and community leaders) and the Federal\/State Government in the use of screen-based technology as a teaching\/learning tool<\/span><\/p>

What technology do we use?<\/span><\/h5>

L4L believes that the future is already dominated by screen technology. Therefore to be a productive and useful citizen of the future today’s children need to have all the appropriate skills to make full use of this technology. We began with the XO and moved onto the Intel Classmate, but we are ready to consider any other screen technology as it becomes available. It is not the hardware but the use of it that is important.<\/span><\/p>

Why not a desktop computer, or a recycled desktop machine?<\/span><\/h5>

The cost in terms of manhours to refurbish a lot of desktops is huge and impractical. Furthermore today’s children deserve to have access to the latest developments in communication technology. The laptop or tablet is very portable which makes it a very convenient piece of equipment.\u00a0 They also have a good battery which is important in the school environment where power supply may be erratic.<\/span><\/p>

Why do Primary school children need laptops or tablets?<\/span><\/h5>

Laptops and tablets are a window and a tool. A window onto the world and a tool with which to think and explore. They are a wonderful way for young children to learn and explore the world around them and share and communicate with others.<\/span><\/p>

Why is it important for each child to have access to their own computer?<\/span><\/h5>

The laptop \/ tablet is a tool just as a pencil. Children have their own pencils with which they learn and communicate. The laptop\/tablet should be seen as the same. They need to have full access and control over this tool.<\/span><\/p>

What about connectivity?<\/span><\/h5>

L4L explores all power sources and offers internet access through the most convenient and suitable provider. The cost is met by the sponsors who agree to supporting the Club running costs which include internet access.<\/span><\/p>

Why Computer Clubs?<\/span><\/h5>

By setting up Computer Clubs as an after school activity L4L can offer all children in classes 4-6 access to screen technology. Because the activities are out of school they do not have to be limited to the school curriculum. They can provide opportunities for children to stretch their learning into new areas. The club activities also provide opportunities for all level of learners.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
